Books read during the holiday

I know that I’m supposed to have read more books than I have during this very long long holiday. I only manage to read 2 books. Actually started on the third book which was Anna Karenina but that it was so thick and the story was a little bit too confusing with the amount of names one character had.

First book I read was Da Vinci Code. I know that almost everyone already read the book and watched the movie. But I haven’t so yeah, read the book and it was really interesting. I know that the book is fictional but the details were really convincing. Makes The Lourve one place that I want to go and see when I visit Paris. I guess the book can be a really a way for France to get people to go to Paris huh? The book was really a page-turner and really enjoyed the book. I’m quite sure people like me who is not really into all this history of any sort would at first thought everything in it is real due to the details. I know some at a certain extend is real but the book can waver the believe of a Christian.

Another book that I read was Jodi Picoult’s Mercy. If you have been following my blog, you’d know that I’m a big Jodi Picoult fan. I have already read and own I think 5 or 6 of her books. This book is about how a small town detective is stuck in a dilemma where he’s distant relative comes to him with a confession that he killed his wife. How the town is split and how his wife sides the cousin for killing the wife because he loves the wife so much, who was suffering from cancer. The sheriff himself then gets involved into an affair with a young lady from out-of-town.

I know that 2 books for a 4 months holiday is very little and I wished that I had read more. But time is gone and I only have less than 3 weeks here in Malaysia. Preparation to go to UK is undergoing. Talking about books, I bought a pharmacology book the other day while I was in KL dealing with my visa. Reading it now, I think it is interesting and quite happy with the choice I made to study that course. All I know is that I have to work hard with this one year that I have because of the course-switching, being in a new environment and all. Final year project is a scary thought you know! Wish me luck for my final year and hopefully I will graduate with a BSc (Hons) Pharmacology with flying colours – first class? Second class upper also can la...:P

OH ya....

I forgot to tell you guys....i bought a new laptop like 3 weeks ago and now am using it. Still new to it and don't really use it. My sister's wireless router at home has gone cuckoo so i can't use the computer unless its for freecell and word.

Acer travel mate 6291 is the model and its really nice and small. Size of an A4 paper, its really nice to bring it around!!

Yay for me, and thanks to Dad for paying for it!

Leaving in 7 days

I’m leaving in a week time and getting a little nervous, a little excited. I know I should really be very excited but now I’m feeling a little worried. I think it’s all in the packing. While my mom was here the other day, she helped me pack my bag a bit and now it is almost done, just a little here and there. The thing that gets me nervous is the thought of my luggage going overweight and if I have brought enough things. I sometimes I feel that I don’t need to bring so much yet sometimes I worry that when I get there I’ll start to regret not bringing the things that I need. Feeling of “I should’ve” and “see I told you, you should’ve” later will definitely suck. Some say bring this, some say don’t just confuses me and just puts me out of the mood of packing.

My parents are off to Macau and China for 10 days, and they just left 2 days ago, means that they won’t be sending me off at the airport the day I leave. I know some of you might think that it’s quite sad, but I think it is a better idea so that not much drama will happen there at the airport, plus there’ll be more than 40 students there saying their goodbyes and all, so imagine KLIA packed with students and parents crying their eyes out. I think there will be more than 40 students, because I know that there will be 40 going to University of Sunderland and I think there’ll be more students from a different travel agent and going to different universities.
I can’t believe that I’ll be leaving in a week and I always thought this day would never come, or would come so soon. Just yesterday, I went to collect my air ticket and it really hit me that I’m really going. I guess I can start singing “I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again”...hahaha.

Another thing I’m worried about is also studies. So scared that I’ll be left out or cannot catch up with everyone. I know that I’ll be going into the final year, and going into a subject which I’m quite new at, it’s going to be difficult. So imagine, students who have been there since year one are already familiar with what is happening, they already have their own clicks and you are coming in as a newcomer. Scary eh, luckily I have another friend with me doing the same course, phew!

I should be more positive about going overseas. Be able to appreciate the opportunity that my parents gave me. I know I’ll have to work hard this one year but at the same time, take in the culture and the experience in a new environment. One thing I’m really excited is getting to a new place and learning about people there. Seeing how “different” people say we are and yet still be the same. So I guess that would be exciting to see. Thanks dad and mom for giving me this opportunity...love you guys loads...missing you guys already.

Well, on a lighter side, Mix.fm gave me a farewell gift this morning, not exactly lar because I don't think that I'll be getting the gift before I leave and it is a mystery gift! Hahaha, I won the "Almost 90's at 9" this morning and very happy with myself! thanks to my sis for the phone! hahaha...and yes, my sister did win something too last week! Lucky lucky!!!

Well, I'll update you guys with whats happening with the remaining days in Malaysia whenever I can and definitely keep you guys posted about my life in the GREAT BRITAIN...wakakakaka!

Shows!

During this holiday, I’ve been watching quite a few show and these are what I personally think of them.

Spiderman 3 – Managed to catch this movie while I was back in Labuan. The action was good, however it was weird to see Tobey Maguire acting all rascal when he was infected with that black thing. Hair messing and all just doesn’t go with him. He’s a geek to the core when he is not swinging from building to building. The graphics were good with Sandman and all.

Pirates of The Caribbean "The Dead Man's Chest" – The third installment of the series. It was funny with Johnny Depp in action, and to see Orlando Bloom is just “sigh, drool”. If you watched the second one, this 3rd one would satisfy the ending of the second one because the second one ended just “liddat” (which I hated la, imagine if something had happened to me, I’ll go to my grave wondering what happened :P). However, the ending of this 3rd installment was lousy. Why does Orlando Bloom’s character have to be curse? Imagine only seeing your wife once in 10 years! Sigh, what la… I thought that the ending would be “happily ever after” but nah…

Fantastic Four – Rise of the Silver Surfer – Human Torch is smokingly HAWT!!! That’s all I can say about the movie! Hahahaha!!! No no…I don’t think that I’m that shallow eh? Or perhaps I don’t want you guys to think that I’m shallow. So, the movie was okay. It’s nice to see the supposedly bad Silver Surfer, who was trying to destroy the earth, in the end saved the planet earth instead. Victor Von Doom was also (still) the villain in the movie, but this time, they managed to destroy him (right? Kinda forgot already).

The Simpsons – Down right funny this one. I am not a die hard Simpsons fan, I occasionally watch it if I just so happen to tune in to it on TV and there is nothing else to watch. This show was stupidly funny. You should definitely go watch it if you want a laugh. I know one person that won’t be watching it would be my mom who can’t stand the cartoon, right ma?

Rush Hour 3 - Watched this movie with my 5th aunty. As you may already expect from a Jackie Chan movie, it’s all action. It’s funny to see Jackie Chan speak English with his Chinese accent. He has already been making Hollywood movies for so long and yet his English still remains the same. Chris Tucker in the other hand can be a little annoying with the high pitch voice of his, but I guess the movie wouldn’t be that nice without him. They make a great pair and as usual they get the bad guys. Nothing too shocking about that! :P

In Pursuit of Happyness – Watched this on DVD the other day at home. Its an inspiring movie acted by Will Smith. He plays a homeless man with a son (played by his very own real life son). It shows how determination will get you places. I know that after watching this movie, I’m suppose to be all positive and determined. But you know lar….macam nothing only…:P bad right? I know I need to appreciate the opportunities I have, had or will have. Like that I’m able to go overseas to continue my degree, which I’m grateful to my parents for allowing me to do it. Some people don’t have such opportunity and I shall work hard. Sounds cliché and all, but it is true!!!

Devil Wears Prada – Hahaha… I know, it way long time ago when this show came out but I never got the chance to watch it when it came out, so I watched it at my aunt’s place the other day when I was staying there for the week. It was a show with no story line, just more of a parade of nice clothes. It was nice to see the girl who has no fashion sense turn into the a fashion diva but other than that the show was crap la…

You may have noticed that there are 2 movies that is the summer must-watch which are not in this list. They are Harry Potter and Transformers. Yes, I have not watched them yet but I want to, but no buddy to teman me because everyone has already seen them!

I went to a play the other day with my 3rd aunt and her friends at the KL Performing Art Center (KL PAC). I have not been there before and was looking forward to it. I was impressed with the whole environment. In my head, it would be something like just a building with a few theatre halls inside. But I was totally wrong. It had this whole glass architecture style, very modern and it is a whole gigantic place, with few buildings and all. The show that I went to watch was “Enemy of the People” directed by Joanna Bessey (local actress). It was a play about a doctor/scientist who discovered that the water system in their town is contaminated, and since that they have a spring that was a tourist attraction, the authorities decides to cover up and try to silence the doctor. The mayor of the town happens to be the doctor’s brother and it becomes a fight between 2 brothers. It is a play that provokes the thought that “majority is not always right” as the town go against the doctor as they are told that if the town council were to change the water system, they will tax the people for it. With that, everyone goes against the doctor to avoid additional tax. The actors are really good and you can see that they are really dedicated to what they are doing. You may see some familiar faces that you see on Malaysian television.

Movies that I watch are Harry Potter, Transformers, Ratatouille…..and many many more!

Wah…I just heard that there will be Shrek 4 and 5!!!! Wow…..Shrek 3 also not yet watch!!!

Outing with the girls!

Have been in PJ for a week house-sitting my cousin’s house. At the end of the week, I had made plans with my girlfriends for the weekend. Met up with the girls late on Friday night and we had our dinner/supper (at 12 midnight) at Itallianies at The Curve. Food was good and even though we were hungry, the food was a lot! Era and Janu got me cupcakes and they were soooo nice! Decorated with rainbows and hearts, it really reflects the feeling I have when I hang out with the girls.

Actually we decided to go to Sunway Lagoon on Saturday;, however, we didn’t go due to the laziness of getting up early, the cloudiness in the sky. So, we stayed in at Janu’s place, called for McD’s and Pizza Hut. It was nice to stay in; at least Janu was able to get some of her work done before going out for the night. Since we decided not to go Sunway Lagoon, we decided to go clubbing instead.

We didn’t exactly decide where to go clubbing with but we knew that we were going to Heritage Row in KL, since Janu’s brother was heading that way too. When we reached there, it was still early (9.30 for clubbing standard is VERY early!) and tagged along Janu’s brother, Satish in to Bar Savahn since he was meeting his friends there.

Once there, we got stuck there. Too lazy to go find some other club and since we already had a table to ourselves, we decided to stay on. People started to come in about 10.30/11 pm and the music was getting there. Satish’s friends arrived and he asked us to stay on cuz he wasn’t going to let us girls be alone, knowing that there were some weird guys around. We didn’t feel too great crashing Satish’s friend’s party (bachelorette party) but we just stood at the bar which was not too far from where he could keep his eyes on us kids( hahaha....he still think we are 14 years old dancing to Britney Spears)

The night was young and it was going to be a really great night. With great music in the air and with my girlfriends, I was having tonnes of fun! Danced the whole night through even though being bugged by a few unwanted guys. There was this old guy who was trying to hit on Janu and it was totally grossed. That fella already had a girl with him but I guess he was being greedy and wanted more. Then came 2 younger guys, there were not too bad...since they complimented how Era and I danced and even thought that Era was a Chinese. He said that usually Chinese don’t really dance and they don’t get the beat. I told him “don’t worry, I’ve got the beat”...Hahaha
Funny things happened that night, but I don’t want to announced it to the world, so those who were there that night (Era, Janu and Satish), you know what happened ya? I know Janu will be teased by Satish for another week huh?? By the way, thanks Satish for so called baby-sitting us for the night, we felt safe with you around!

Woke up the next day (Sunday) at 12, had lunch and we went our separate ways. This weekend was supposed to be my farewell weekend, but we are thinking of another weekend together. Can’t imagine one year without my girls lar!!!!

You girls mean a lot of me, and I totally mean it! I appreciate our friendship and I hope that when we are all wrinkled-up , in our 70’s we are all still this tight!

Gwen Stefani's Concert!

Last night was awesome!!!!

Arrived the Bukit Jalil Indoor Stadium at around 7.30pm and met up with my sister who came from Nilai ( I in PJ for the week to house-sit my Aunts place). The queue outside was really really long, however we manage to get in quite easily. The lines where split into 2, males and female. The female queue was so long that my sister and I went up to the guy's lane to check and see whats happening cuz at first we didnt know that it was split to 2. The guy there then said that this is a guys lane and the security is a guy. Both of us were like " Haiya, nevermind lar, we dont mind a guy searching us". So we went through the line without any hassle.

Got in and searched for our seats. Boy were we happy to find that our seats were so near the stage! it was at the side of the stage which was real good and another thumbs up was that the big screen was just next to us!

The show started about 9pm. She came out with her Harajuku dancers in their cute, funky outfits. Even the costumes themselves were so interesting (although she had to modify them to comply to the rules that was given to her). She started the show with Sweet Escape!! I tell you, the crowd were wild!!! Her performance was awesome!!! It was worth spending RM257 for the tickets!

It was also interesting to see the crowd. You could see grandmothers there, really really young children (damn lucky huh), from different backgrounds! There were also a few groups of people who wore the black and white stripes outfits that were inspired by her sweet escape video!

From her concert, you can see that she is a very humble person. She came down from the stage and went to the other side of the stadium to sing so that those who were too far from the stage could get a glimpse of the "real" her. It was really nice of her to do that!

All in all, it was an amazing night being able to catch Gwen LIVE was COOL!!

You've have been such a wonderful father and I love you very much

HUGS AND KISSES!!!!

Approved!

On Tuesday, my brother brought me around to run some errands. I needed settle my visa application. So i started of at the University of Sunderlands regional office to make sure that all my documents that i have is what is needed for the visa application. While i was there, Jessica and Yvonne, who works there were kind enough to help me with the form-filling and photocopying of the documents for me. They definitely made my life much easier, i didnt have to go a photocopying shop to photocopy the documents.

After that, i headed straight to the British High Commission to summit my application. From now on, we do not have to go to the British High Commission, but to the MCA building along Jalan Ampang to summit the application. I was there about 2 and half hours just to summit the application. They really work real slow there, one application takes about like 15 minutes. Sometimes it takes longer when the applicant misses out documents! Well, after i summitted mine, i was so hungry cuz i didnt eat lunch before that.... So once arrived back at my aunts place, i called for McD!!!yum yum

So yesterday, i went to collect my passport. In the morning, i called the British High Commission to see whether my visa was ready for collection, the lady said yes but she could not tell whether it was accepted of rejected. So the whole day, i wasn't feeling too great. Imagine i get rejected??? all the money spent into it....would really make me cry there and then!!!

So, to make the long story short, I GOT IT!!.now i can sleep peacefully!!!! So yes, i can confirm that im going to UK to study lar.... now left is my flight ticket which i havent paid yet.....

Yay!! Im still at my aunt's place, and will get back to my sister's place soon.... see ya then!

Back in KL

I'm currently at my aunts place. Landed in LCCT and my sister didnt want me to come home cuz i'm sick so i headed to my aunts place where there are no children. Apparently, what i have is suspected to be contagious to small kids...so i better be safe than sorry.

While I'm here, i plan to go do my visa stuff. Will only start tomorrow because the lady that is incharge is not in the office today and will only be in tomorrow. She better be there tomorrow. I really want to get this things over and done with so that i will have peaceful sleep at nights!

I will return to my sisters place when i'm well and most probably it will be on Thursday and i hope that by then, everything will be done!!!!

Will blog later la.....more to blog about my home, Labuan and what happened there, together with photos when i get back home to my sister's place!

At Last

I've been wanting to blog for so long but due to the horrible connection here, its is impossible!!

I've been back in Labuan for more than a month now and did not manage to get a job cuz they said that 2 months was not long enough. I asked 2 hotels and they said that they either wanted a full time staff or at least 3 months of work. So i guess the remaining days of my holidays is spent by spending more time with my parents.

I've been away from home for 2 years while studying in Inti but i dont really consider it away from home because i stayed with my sister which is still family. And with Air Asia, i travelled about 2 or more times back home and my parents visited me numerous times. So all of this does not make me miss home much. However, when i leave for UK this september, I wont be seeing my family for about a year, which kinda scares me a little. I know that i'm not that kinda person who will miss home that much cuz i've been travelling on my own since a young age. Like i would go around Sabah with my Bahai friends for one whole month and that time when i went to India for 2 and half months. I didn't miss home much and the only time that i would miss home is when i was on the phone with my parents...Hopefully it will be the same when i further my studies in a couple of months time.

I've been hanging out with some friends back home. Its nice to catch up with them and to spend time with them as i wont be seeing then for a year, or maybe more?? OMG, I can't imagine my life without my family and my girlfriends, they are the ones that keep me sane!!! I still got a couple of friends that i've yet to hang out with and i must find a day to drag those people of their arses go yam cha!

Since i've been back here, i've been helping out with the Rotarians with their eye screening project about once a week. At least i'm doing something beneficial. I also finished the Da Vinci Code (I know that many of you have already read it and i'm way behind everyone), and now on my Jodi Picoult book, Mercy. I plan to read a couple more books so that at least i have accomplished something during this LONG holiday.

Something else to keep me occupied next month is that i'm involved with the fashion show for St.Anne's Reunion. Some of you might go "OMG!!! May is going to MODEL?"... I'm just doing it in support of my school and for the fun of it! The fashion show is all about fashions during different eras. I'm dressing up as Gwen Stefani during the 90's when No Doubt were HUGE. So tank top, track pants, sneakers, wacky hair. My sister asked me to bleach my hair, but i'm not going to ruin my hair just for one night!! and not forgetting, the fashion show is just a 30 minutes show and i still have the dinner to enjoy and not be the center of attention with my blond hair!! I plan to cut my hair short (now its out of shape) and highlight with red? What do you think??? I need comments!! Other than that, i'm really looking forward to this reunion which i think would be fun with all the people that would be attending.

My sister was here a couple of days ago to drop her son here so that she, her hubby and Jia Wen can go for a holiday. Jia Xiang has been fun to look after but sometimes he just loves to be carried, which is not so fun. just now i think i carried him while he slept for about an hour till my neck was hurting. He'll be here till next week when his mom will come get him... One misconception when Jia Xiang is here without his mother is that when we go out with the baby, everyone would think that the baby is mine. Which is not so good being that Labuan is so so small and that rumours travels in the speed of light and i do not want people going around saying " ko tau, hari tu aku nampak si Goh Szue May dukung baby oh, capat jua dia beranak!" A big no no in a town sooooo small and half of the island knows you! I'm not saying i'm not proud to have a niece and nephew but i dont want people to think otherwise!!

hmm... what else to blog ah...since the connection is allowing me to...

Oh ya, i bought a sneakers today, happy happy joy joy with my new adidas!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few belated wishes!!!
Happy Belated Birthday to my dearest sister!!! She's 30!! She's happy that she's that much closer to the end of her period..Love you, che!
Me and Labuan
Been back in labuan for about 3 weeks now and it is nice to back home. For the past 3 days, i've been helping my parents paint the inside of the house, the paint is finished so i guess there's no more painting tomorrow.
Recieved my offer letter from University of Sunderland today and i'm glad that everything is going so far smoothly. The next thing i have to do is to do my passport and my visa and to pay up for the tuition fees!!! I really hope there will be no complications through this whole process!!!
Can't wait for my friends to come back to labuan, then i'll be hanging out with them soon!!!! wakakaka...come home come home!!!
Oh ya, speaking of friends, I WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO ERA NATASHA WHO JUST HAD HER CONVO LAST WEEK!!! CONGRATS BABE!! VERY VERY PROUD OF YOU....
I'm going home!
Tomorrow I'll be going back to Labuan! I'm not sure how long i'll be there but it would be quite a while. Since i bought only a one way ticket, i suppose i'll be there at least 2 months. It all depends on how all my university application goes. I still need to come back to KL to do my visa and things like that, even shopping for winter clothings (which i can't wait)
Anyway, i wont be blogging as often, due to the dial-up connection but i'll keep everyone updated. Those who will be in labuan, dont forget to call me and we all can go hang out!!!
Mummy, I Love YOU!!!
My mom and my niece
"Before I was myself you made me, me
With love and patience, discipline and tears,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,
Allowing me to sail upon my sea,
Though well within the headlands of your fears.
Before I was myself you made me, me
With dreams enough of what I was to be
And hopes that would be sculpted by the years,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,
Relinquishing your powers gradually
To let me shape myself among my peers.
Before I was myself you made me, me,
And being good and wise, you gracefully
As dancers when the last sweet cadence nears
Bit by bit stepped back to set me free.
For love inspires learning naturally:
The mind assents to what the heart reveres.
And so it was through love you made me, me
By slowly stepping back to set me free."
MOM, I LOVE YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART! WITHOUT YOU, I WOULDN'T BE THE ME
ARGH!!!
I'm very PISSED right now......My exams results are out and the results are really upsetting!!!!
After sitting for the exams, and knowing how i did for the exam, i was aiming for 2 A's.....but now..... after seeing the results that is out....i'm so disappointed ....
i got B+'s for the subject that i was aiming for an A-... because i got quite high internal marks for those subjects.....about 40+ over a totall of 50%. I'm curious.... getting B+ for my finals means my final marks (internal mark+final paper) is around 75-79.... so roughly 75-40=35, and since my finals stands 50% of the whole marks.. 35 x 2 = 70.....That means i scored about 70 in my finals....which i think its bad...thinking that i could answer the questions in the paper!!!! DARN.........Usually during the exams, after finishing up with my paper, i'll calculate roughly how much i can get during the exams so that i can roughly expect my results. BUT NOW ITS TOTALLY UNEXPECTED!!!
ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I WANT TO PUNCH SOMEONE RIGHT NOW!!!
Joke of the Day
Today while i was playing with my niece, this was what happened -
* To those who dont understand mandarin, Jia Wen's surname, Ooi, in chinese it's "Huang" which means yellow
Me: Jia Wen, this is your chinese name - "Huang Jia Wen" (showing her on a piece of paper in chinese character
Jia Wen: No lar, I'm not Huang Jia Wen, I'm Ooi Jia Wen
