Things I bought last Friday

I bought a few things last friday, which i'm happy about. I know that my main objective being here in the UK is to study, but sometimes temptations just takes over you. Its not that i bought those things just because its cheap, but they are of use.

Things, not a lot, that i bought was a vest with a hood, a book, and a hat.

Reasons to the purchase (trying my best to take the guilt away):

The Hat - used when my hair just wont want to stay...since my hair is really short, my hair stands when i wake up in the mornings. Sometimes wax wont help, but i know that with the hat, my hair can hide underneath it. The best part of it, is that it only cost 1 pound!! RM 7 can't get you a decent hat back home!

The Vest - I have a couple of jackets with me, but they are in a variety of thickness. Needed one that wasn't too thick so that i can wear it now during the autumn so that i can wash the one that i have been wearing since they day i arrived. This vest keeps me warm without suffocating me!

The Book - Heard from many friends that it was a light read but a book that will make you cry. Bought it from the children charity place, so it was part charity...:P During the weekends, it gets really boring and so this book will entertain me, at least for another week (i hope, unless i get really excited about it and finish it tomorrow).

I know i must limit myself from unnecessary spending, but even with the convertion rate of about 7, some things are still a lot cheaper here. Saw shoes selling for 2-4 pounds, boots selling for 6 pounds, sweaters selling for 3 pounds. I mean, even after converting it back to RM, its still sooooooo CHEAP....if you can find a boots selling for RM 50 bucks in malaysia (i'm not saying some cheap stuff, but of good quality and that will keep you warm)....please tell me okay? it might stop me from considering buying it from here...

Books read during the holiday

I know that I’m supposed to have read more books than I have during this very long long holiday. I only manage to read 2 books. Actually started on the third book which was Anna Karenina but that it was so thick and the story was a little bit too confusing with the amount of names one character had.

First book I read was Da Vinci Code. I know that almost everyone already read the book and watched the movie. But I haven’t so yeah, read the book and it was really interesting. I know that the book is fictional but the details were really convincing. Makes The Lourve one place that I want to go and see when I visit Paris. I guess the book can be a really a way for France to get people to go to Paris huh? The book was really a page-turner and really enjoyed the book. I’m quite sure people like me who is not really into all this history of any sort would at first thought everything in it is real due to the details. I know some at a certain extend is real but the book can waver the believe of a Christian.

Another book that I read was Jodi Picoult’s Mercy. If you have been following my blog, you’d know that I’m a big Jodi Picoult fan. I have already read and own I think 5 or 6 of her books. This book is about how a small town detective is stuck in a dilemma where he’s distant relative comes to him with a confession that he killed his wife. How the town is split and how his wife sides the cousin for killing the wife because he loves the wife so much, who was suffering from cancer. The sheriff himself then gets involved into an affair with a young lady from out-of-town.

I know that 2 books for a 4 months holiday is very little and I wished that I had read more. But time is gone and I only have less than 3 weeks here in Malaysia. Preparation to go to UK is undergoing. Talking about books, I bought a pharmacology book the other day while I was in KL dealing with my visa. Reading it now, I think it is interesting and quite happy with the choice I made to study that course. All I know is that I have to work hard with this one year that I have because of the course-switching, being in a new environment and all. Final year project is a scary thought you know! Wish me luck for my final year and hopefully I will graduate with a BSc (Hons) Pharmacology with flying colours – first class? Second class upper also can la...:P

Holiday Reads

These are the books that i've read during this holiday!! They have certainly kept me entertained for the whole 2 months!

April Fool's Day- Its about the author's son who grew up with Heamophilia and later with AIDS...Its about how he and his family, his lover go through life with it till the last days of his life. Its a good book to read and it makes you feel so lucky to be healthy and without any life-threatening disease! A very touching story about love and life!

Vanishing Acts- As you all know, i read a lot of Jodi Picoult books and this is one of the latest i got. This book is about a women who finds out in her 30s that she was kidnapped by her own father from her mother. She was made to believe that her mother was dead. After almost 30 years of not knowing the whole truth, she is in search of her true identity. Read the synopsis here.

The Memory Keeper's Daughter- This book is about a doctor who deliver his own twins. One is healthy and normal and the other one with down syndrome. He makes a split second decision to give the daughter with down syndrome to a nurse to bring her to an institution. However the nurse runs away from the town with the child and raises the kid on her own. This act done by the doctor haunts him for life as he kept this secret from his own family and those around him! Nice book...looking forward to reading more of Kim Edward's Book!
